Our software developers are in the process of implementing the calculation codes ASME B31.1 and B31.8 in the PCC software. This will complete the list of commonly used calculations codes for piping design based on internal/external pressure.
A comparison table between the ASME B31.1, B31.3 (already part of PCC) and B31.8 is created as part of the implementation process. Since this information is also useful for engineers we have published the comparison table on the Red-Bag website, click here.
The ASME B31.1 is used for Power Piping and B31.8 is used for Gas Transportation Systems.
The Red-Bag software developers have also some engineering background. The calculation codes are first studied and since the B31.3 was already part of PCC, it was logical to compare the codes and create a comparison table. This will also be helpful during the validation process of the detail calculations.
The PCC software architecture allows the implementation of individual calculation codes. After the prototyping (software) of the calculations, they can be implemented in the development version of PCC. When all the calculations are implemented, the validation procedure is started. The validation of the calculation takes about the same time as the creation of the software for the calculations. We expect the completion of this effort before the end of 2009.
