Consultancy services
- Details
The vast experience at Red-Bag is used to support our customer and to provide consultancy for common problems. The firsthand experience of our personnel is from previous positions at Engineering Contractors, End User or Asset Owners, Fabricators, and based on all work done for our customers or potential customers. The work experience includes green field and brown field projects. The technical experience comprises from detail and core mechanical engineering work up to and including project management. This allows Red-Bag to compare work methods, project procedures, engineer capabilities, technical issues and develop best its own best practices.
Case - pipe specification consultancy
- Details
The previous years with this customer the experienced and retired engineers have the been replaced and most engineering work is now subcontracted. Procedures and (piping) specifications have not been kept up to date. Red-Bag provided a workshop on the European Pressure Equipment Directive (PED) to illustrate what the minimum current authority regulations are. The purpose of the piping specification with all the pipe classes have been discussed with the customer. Based on that discussion and subsequent requirements, Red-Bag has provided an updated piping specification with pipe classes suited for the need of the customer including paint and insulation specification. (Heineken)
Case - line designation table consultancy
- Details
The piping line table or line designation table is frequently in spreadsheet format. Many engineers are using the line table update the information regularly. However for a group of engineers it difficult to keep track of the latest issues, because there are many copies of the spreadsheet with the various engineers. This quality problem is applicable to other listings as well. Red-Bag provided an overview of essential data to be kept up to date and provided a working software application connected to a central database. This demonstrated the advantages of central storage of data. (Basf)
Case - custom flange consultancy
- Details
A custom flange assembly is going to be installed at the bottom of the ocean. The flanges pair consists of a ring type joint (RTJ) weld neck flange and a swivel (loose) flange. The previous installation started leaking and the end user is considering this new custom design with a higher bolt load. The ASME flange calculations did not provide the required evidence that the new higher bolt load would not damage a component (bolt, flange, ring gasket) in the assembly. Red-Bag provided consultancy services and did the flange analysis with the in-house application for the EN 1591-1 calculation code. (Bureau Veritas)
Case - tube sheet consultancy
- Details
A shell and tube heat exchanger experiences during normal operation high thermal shock due to regular start and stop of the system. The tube sheet gasket due to the bending of the tube sheet and rotation at the ends, started to leak after a period of time. Various regular code calculations have been executed including ASME VIII div.1 and EN 1591-1 giving not enough evidence to change the design. Finally the Red-Bag partner Wentzel Dynamics performed the Finite Element Analysis in which also the fluid flow was included. The fluid flow and the heat transfer modelling provided a better insight in the thermal behavior of the system. It was found that due to the extreme rotation of the tube sheet the gasket was damaged. Suggestion for a new design have been presented to the customer. (Petrogas)
Case - non conventional nozzle connection consultancy
- Details
A special connection to equipment was required for process reasons. The required connection on the bottom head was outside the scope of the regular calculation codes. The design required the authority approvals. Red-Bag provided the consultancy and managed the process for a Finite Element Analysis (FEA) with the Red-Bag partner Wentzel Dynamics. The design and modelling have been extensively discussed with the Notified Body. The design was approved accordingly.
