A project for the fabrication or a plant in the petrochemical industry consists of various phases. The phases can be:
- Process Design
- Front End Engineering Design
- Basic Engineering
- Detail Engineering
- Procurement
- Construction
- Commissioning
- Start-up
During these phases many activities are executed, hardware is purchases and tools are used. A coding system is used to control the cost during the execution of the project. This coding system is usually related also to the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) of the project. The WBS is used to breakdown the project in controlable smaller items for planning purposes.
The Project Account and Cost Code system presented in the sub (web) pages has the following main categories. Use this link to go directly to the QA system documents >
The categories are also refered to as 'Accounts'.
- A - Towers
- B - Buildings
- C - Piping
- D - Structures
- E - Electrical
- F - Fire Protection
- G - Special Equipment
- H - Heaters and Stacks
- J - Foundations
- K - Control Systems
- L - Home Office Overhead Charges
- M - Drums, Tanks and Reactors
- N - Insulation
- P - Pumps and Compressors
- Q - Sewers
- R - Painting
- S - Site Development
- T - Heat Exchangers
- U - Home Office
- V - Insurances, Taxes, Licenses, etc.
- W - Transportation Costs
- X - Temporary Facilities
- Y - Field Office Charges
- Z - Tools, Equipment and Consumables
Items which are usually part of the overall project price such as contigencies, fee, profit and development cost are not included in above cost coding.
The column 'Stem Sub' gives the main part of the cost code. The first letter is also refered to as the account.
The colum 'Rest' provides the detail part of the cost code. Depending the detail level of the cost code reporting, this part can be one up to six letters or numbers.
The column 'Detail' is used for indication of the equipment number or for very detailed cost coding for example the bore of pipe component.
The column 'Level' gives the level of cost code detail. A higher number gives a more detailed part of the cost coding system.
Abbreviations used in the 'Unit of Measurement' (UoM) column:
- EA - each
- HR - hour
- KG - kilogram
- Lot - lot
- LT - lot
- M - meter
- M2 - square meter
- M3 - cubic meter
- PC - piece
The column 'Description' gives a short scope description of cost code.
